Wine Tourism & Agritourism in Santorini
Wineries, olive groves, farms and workshops that welcome visitors, with the producer as your host.
In Santorini, wine is shaped by a vineyard that has learned to survive with very little water and plenty of wind. Assyrtiko vines are woven low to the ground into the island's distinctive «kouloura» baskets, protecting the grapes from strong winds. Many of the island's vines are remarkably old, while Vinsanto, made from sun-dried grapes, remains one of its most characteristic wines. The same volcanic soil also produces Santorini's famous fava and small dry-farmed tomatoes.

Planning a visit to Santorini
The grape harvest starts early in Santorini, usually in August, thanks to the island's hot and dry climate. For a quieter experience at the estates, consider visiting in spring, early summer or autumn, when there are fewer visitors but the vineyards are still very much alive. And when you visit a winery, ask how Santorini's volcanic soil shapes the way its grapes are grown and the wines they produce.
